SWNG is built around a simple principle: your swing footage is yours. This policy explains exactly what the SWNG app accesses on your device, what leaves your device, and what stays on it, in plain language, matched to what the app actually does.

Short version: there's no account, no server, and no upload of your video or photos. The only thing that leaves your device is a small set of anonymous usage events used to understand how the app is used. Details below.

Camera & Video

SWNG requests camera access with this permission prompt: “SWNG needs camera access to detect and record your golf swings in slow motion.”

Here's what that access is used for:

  • Live camera frames are analyzed on-device using Apple's Vision framework (pose estimation) to detect when you've taken a swing. These frames are processed entirely on your iPhone. They are never uploaded, transmitted, or sent to us or anyone else.
  • When a swing is detected, the captured video is written locally as a .mov file inside the app's Documents directory on your device.
  • Your video stays on your device unless you explicitly choose to export or share it (for example, saving a clip to your Photo Library or sending it to a coach). We never have access to your videos.

Photo Library

SWNG requests Photo Library access with this permission prompt: “SWNG saves slow-motion golf swing videos you record or import to your Photo Library…”

This is an add-only permission. SWNG can save a video you choose to export into your Photo Library, and you can also import existing videos into the app to review them. In both cases, you pick the specific video yourself through the system picker. The app never gets broader access to browse or read your Photo Library, it only ever sees the individual videos you select to import, plus whatever it places there when you export.

What's Stored On Your Device

SWNG has no user accounts, no login, and no server-side storage. Everything the app knows about your swings lives only on your device:

  • Swing clips. Stored locally using Apple's SwiftData framework, on-device only, with no iCloud/CloudKit sync. This includes the video filename, date, club tag, thumbnail, duration, favorite flag, and trim state.
  • App settings and preferences. Stored locally via iOS UserDefaults, covering things like swing-detection tuning and capture preferences.

None of this data is sent to us. If you delete a clip, or delete the app itself, this data is deleted along with it.

Analytics

SWNG uses TelemetryDeck, a privacy-focused analytics provider, to understand overall app usage and improve the product. This is the only third-party service SWNG connects to, and the only data that leaves your device besides content you explicitly export.

The events SWNG sends fall into a few categories:

  • App lifecycle. App opened, session ended with no activity.
  • Onboarding. Onboarding started/completed, camera permission granted/denied.
  • Capture. A swing was auto-captured, the first swing ever captured on this install, which detection mode was used (down-the-line or face-on), which detection signal triggered the capture, and low-confidence detection sessions.
  • Review & export. A video was opened, a trim was applied (auto or manual), a drawing tool was used, an export to the camera roll was made.

Every event carries at most a fixed category label (like a mode name or "auto"/"manual"), never free text and never user-generated content.

What is never sent: no video, no images, no thumbnails, no swing metrics or measurements, no location data, no contacts, and no advertising identifier (SWNG does not use IDFA or Apple's AppTrackingTransparency framework anywhere in the app).

TelemetryDeck's own infrastructure is designed to avoid persistent, cross-app identifiers or device fingerprinting. For the authoritative description of how TelemetryDeck processes data on our behalf, see the TelemetryDeck Privacy Policy.

SWNG does not currently offer an in-app toggle to disable analytics. We rely on the fact that the data collected is anonymous, aggregate, and limited to fixed categorical values as our basis for collecting it. If you'd prefer not to send any usage data at all, you can revoke it at the OS level by disabling analytics sharing for SWNG in iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Analytics & Improvements, or by contacting us using the details below.

We Do Not Sell or Share Your Data

SWNG does not sell, rent, or trade any data to third parties, and does not share data with third parties for cross-context behavioral advertising. The only outside party that ever receives data from the app is TelemetryDeck, acting strictly as our analytics processor, and only for the anonymous, categorical events described above.

What SWNG Doesn't Do

  • No microphone or audio capture. Recorded video is silent.
  • No network calls beyond the TelemetryDeck analytics SDK described above.
  • No other third-party SDKs, trackers, or ad networks.
  • No user accounts, sign-in, or forms that collect identifying information.

Data Retention

Swing clips and app settings are retained locally on your device for as long as you keep them. Deleting a clip within the app removes it immediately; deleting the app removes all locally stored data, including SwiftData records and preferences. We do not retain copies of this data anywhere else, because we never receive it in the first place.

Security

Because your swing footage and library data never leave your device, they're protected by the same security as the rest of your iPhone, including its encryption and passcode/biometric lock. The anonymous analytics events sent to TelemetryDeck are transmitted over an encrypted connection. No method of storage or transmission is ever 100% guaranteed to be secure, but nothing about SWNG's design requires us to hold a copy of your data that could be breached on our end, because we don't have one.

This Website

This policy also covers swnggolf.app, the marketing website you're reading right now. The site doesn't use cookies, analytics, or any tracking scripts of its own. Our hosting provider may keep standard server access logs (such as IP address and request time) for security and reliability purposes, in line with ordinary web hosting practice.

Your Rights

Because SWNG doesn't collect personal data on a server, there is generally nothing to access, export, correct, or delete on our end. Your swing data already lives entirely under your control, on your device.

If you are located in the European Economic Area, the UK, or Switzerland, you have rights under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), including the right to access, correct, delete, or restrict processing of your personal data, and the right to lodge a complaint with your local supervisory authority.

If you are a California resident, you have rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), including the right to know what personal information is collected, the right to delete it, and the right to opt out of its sale (SWNG does not sell personal information).

Children's Privacy

SWNG is not directed to children under the age of 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 13. If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will address it.

We may update this Privacy Policy as the app changes. Any changes will be posted on this page with an updated "Last updated" date. We encourage you to review this page periodically.
